VII. The loading

Chapter 4: Vehicles

General rules

Loading cannot

  • Impair driver visibility
  • constitute a danger
  • Degrade public roads
  • Dragging or falling on public roads
  • Compromising vehicle stability
  • Hide lights, reflectors or license plates

Limits to respect

The width of the load cannot exceed:

  • Cyclo: 1 m
  • Moto : 1,25 m
  • Motorcycle with sidecar: 2.50 m
  • Motor vehicle and trailer: 2.55 m

The height of the vehicle and its load cannot exceed:

  • 4 m for all vehicles

Loading length:

  • At the front: no overtaking
  • At the rear  : you can exceed up to 1 m without signaling. If we exceed 1 m, we indicate it with a sign measuring 50 cm on each side. The maximum is 3 m 
  • Cyclo and motorcycle: you can exceed a maximum of 0.50 m

The masses

  1. Tare : mass of an empty vehicle in running order, weight of the bodywork, equipment, accessories, full of fuel, lubricant and water without passengers or load.
  2. Empty mass : tare without fuel but with additional equipment for normal use + regulatory equipment
  3. Payload : maximum weight that the vehicle can transport
  4. The maximum authorized mass (MMA) : vehicle tare + passenger + payload , this is the maximum weight that must never be exceeded due to the resistance of the vehicle. This weight is determined by the manufacturer.
  5. The loaded mass: this is the weight of the vehicle, passengers and cargo at the time it is traveling

Road signs

This signal prohibits access to vehicles whose  laden mass exceeds that indicated.

All other signs supplemented by an additional sign specifying a mass concern the MMA.
